HAGGAI 1:12-15

12. Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people (returned from captivity), listened to and obeyed the voice of the Lord their God (not vaguely or partly, but completely) according to the words of Haggai the prophet, since the Lord their God had sent him, and the people reverently feared and worshipfully turned to the Lord.

13. Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, spoke the Lord’s message to the people, saying, I am with you, says the Lord.

14. And the Lord aroused the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, so that they came and labored on the house of the Lord of Hosts, their God.

15. On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.

The Israelites had returned from Babylon and were not rebuilding the temple of the Lord’s house. The Lord sent Haggai the prophet to them to say, ” Why is My house in ruins and you go about fixing up you own houses?” He brought about a drought withholding the produce.

Then the people repented and began the work on the temple with all of their hearts. How does this apply to our lives?

Do we spend all of our extra time and money on our homes and families? What about His temple? Are we becoming the servants He wants us to be? Are we becoming more like Him or more like the world? Are we becoming more patient and forgiving? Are we becoming better or more bitter? Are we growing in grace becoming more like Jesus every day?

Are we enduring the trials of our faith without complaining? Can we see the fruit of our suffering after the trials, learning lessons only the refiner’s fire can teach? Are we coming closer to Jesus or running the other way? Are we spending less time in front of the TV, pampering our flesh? Do we have patience with loved ones, or do we always have to be right? Are we learning to speak and complain less?

These are important questions. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. His job is to cleanse us and make us fit to become the Lord’s House. Everyone is different. I may have left out some important problems. Each of us knows what the Lord wants.

The Lord will have a remnant who will come and allow the Holy Spirit to have His way and obey the voice of the Lord, not vaguely or partly but completely. Only then will the Lord come and bless and complete His work.

The latter glory will be greater than the former glory because it will contain the beauty and majesty of the Lord greater than at any time before! We are in for a great outpouring of His Spirit. The floodgates of Heaven will be poured on a Holy people that have been prepared to receive. It is time to get ready to receive!

The standard is a new breed of sanctified Christians who will shine forth as lights in the midst of a wicked and perverse generation. It will not be just a renewal of love and praise, but a restoration of holiness unto the Lord.
