The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts. KJV
The prophet Haggai was bringing a warning to the Israelites. The Lord said to them, “was it time for them to fix up their own houses, while the house of the Lord lies in ruins?” He called for a drought because of His house that lay in waste. Could He do the same today? What is the House of the Lord? There are many beautiful church buildings.
1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you no know that your body is the temple of the — the very sanctuary of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received (as a Gift) from God? You are not your own. Amp.
We are the temple He is referring to in Haggai 2:9.
Rev. 3:11 Behold, I come quickly, hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
What is the pathway to victory?
We receive a spiritual crown as a sign of victory, as we become ruler over Satan in our life. We become overcomers because of the presence of God in our lives. Each quality in 2Peter 1:5-7 is a pathway to victory. Spurgeon speaks of them as jewels.
THE CROWN OF VICTORY
- Brotherly Love
- God’s Love or Charity
This is the spiritual peace and prosperity that He is referring to in Haggai 2. 2 Peter tells us that His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that we need in this life that we might escape from the moral decay and be partakers of the divine nature. vs.2-4.
Each of these qualities are gradual and will lead us to the best which is God’s love. The temple will be more glorious than ever filled with the love of God.
Haggai 2:12 …the remnant of the people returned from captivity, listened to and obeyed the voice of the Lord their God not vaguely or partly, but completely…
Make God’s glory your object in life; live in His sight; dwell close to Him; seek for fellowship with Him, and thou hast “godliness.” When you are adorned with these jewels, and just in proportion as you practice these heavenly virtues, you will come to know by clearest evidence “your calling and election.” Give diligence, if you would get assurance, for lukewarmness and doubting naturally go hand in hand.
