Then he said to me, This addition of the bowl to the candlestick, causing it to yield a ceaseless supply of oil from the olive trees is the Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit (of Whom the oil is a symbol), says the Lord of hosts. Amp.
Might – d) great strength, power, force or vigor.
Power – d) ability to do, capacity to act.
Zerubbabel, the prince of Judah and Joshua, the high priest are sent to rebuild the temple after their return from captivity. Then they returned with the remnant and were ready to listen to and obey the voice of the Lord not vaguely or partly but completely. Haggai 1:12
I believe they had come to the end of their own strength and desired greatly for the Lord to restore all that had been lost. Their beautiful temple was in ruins and they knew it was their fault. How many warnings were given to their fathers before judgment came? I am sure there were many more than I would have given them.
The Lord has a plan for His people and He has the ability to make it happen perfectly if we will let Him. What was He waiting for? He needs us to be emptied out of self. We must come to the end of ourselves and say, “Not my will but Thy will be done in my life.” He brings trial after trial and waits to hear those words come out of our mouth.
As long as we think we are something special He cannot use us. We must come to the knowledge of Isaiah 64:6, “and all our righteousness — our best deeds of rightness and justice are as filthy rags or a polluted garment.”
He is waiting for us to learn the most important lesson we have to learn. We need to cease from our own self and works and rest in Him so He can flow through us and work. We must decrease so He can increase like John the Baptist.
Then what are we to do? We are to do what He told the disciples to do.
Luke 24:49 And behold, I will send forth upon you What My Father has promised; but remain in the city (Jerusalem) until you are clothed with power from on high.
Verse 53 says they were continually in the temple celebrating with praises and blessing and extolling God. In Acts 1:14 says they were in full agreement devoting themselves steadfastly to prayer.
It is our duty to always be praying for others and our needs as we must become a house of prayer. But also we must draw near to Him in praise and worship. This is how we come into His presence and receive His love, I believe in the strongest way. We must learn how to be with Him and hear His voice. All the while self is growing weaker and the Holy Spirit is getting stronger.
I believe the scripture in Zech. 4:6 is talking about our power and our might. It is possible for us to come to a place where we are supplied with a ceaseless supply of His Spirit. Then as we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, The water He gives to us will become a spring of water welling up, flowing continually within us unto eternal life. John 4:14
He told Joshua that he would rebuild a temple, but it is the Lord Who would build the true temple of the Lord. We are that temple of the Holy Spirit. It is not a physical temple but spiritual temple.
He will come and dwell within this temple because His love is greater than any other force there is. He just wants to be as close to us as He can get. Will you let Him come into your heart and build the true temple?
