PSALM 5:2-3

2. Hear the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You do I pray.

3. In the morning you hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning I prepare (a prayer, a sacrifice) for You, and watch and wait for You to speak to my heart. Amp.

Prayer – c) Intercession, supplication.

Intercession – d) meditation, pleading or prayer in behalf of another.

Supplicate – d) to ask for humbly as by prayer.

Meditate – d) to think deeply and continuously.

Here is David again pouring his heart out to the Lord. He has sadness in his heart but knows the Lord will come and speak to his heart and he will be fine again. He is waiting to hear the voice of the Lord, to bring peace to his soul. We must spend that time alone, in the secret place, waiting for Him to speak to the still place of our heart. It will bring us more encouragement than anything. We must practice this stillness everyday and learn His voice.

Isaiah 56:7 All these I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted on My altar, for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. Amp.

Satan loves to rob God’s people of their prayer time. It is a battle that we must win if we want to be used by the Lord. He wants us to come into His house and worship Him there. How can we come if there is no consistent prayer life? What is prayer actually but humbly asking for help. He knows every answer and is more than willing to give it to us.

When Jesus came riding into Jerusalem on the donkey on Palm Sunday, He went to the temple and drove out all who bought and sold and turned over the tables of the money-changers. And what did He say? “My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers.” (Matt. 21:13) Then He cursed the fig tree and said, “No more fruit shall grow on you.” (Matt.21:19)

He was showing His disciples what He was about to do. He was doing away with the old covenant with a curse of no more fruit. There would be no salvation without the blood of Jesus to atone for sin. The Jewish Temple would be that cursed fig tree. The disciples would become the apostles that would preach and spread the New Gospel of Christ.

Luke 24:49 And behold, I will send forth upon you What My Father has promised; but remain in the city (Jerusalem) until you are clothed with power from on high.

Acts 1:14 All of these with their minds in full agreement devoted themselves steadfastly to prayer…

They spent time in steadfast prayer, waiting for power from on High to be poured out upon them. Is it not the same with us? Many want to be preachers and evangelists but without the needed time in prayer. If they jump into any ministry too quick, their works will not stand. His house is a house of prayer. There are many houses of worship, but if they are not a house of prayer, they are not His house.

The definition of meditation is to think deeply and continuously. What is on your mind? Prayer conditions our minds to think deeply and continuously on the things of God. Without prayer our minds run this way and that way. We need prayer. We need to change. He loves us and will make us what we want and need to be. And that is His dwelling place which is a house of prayer.
