23. And He saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on My right hand, and on My left, is not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of My Father. KJV
Baptize – d) to purify
Prepared – c) provide, make ready.
Jesus is telling the mother of Zebedee’s children that His disciples must drink His cup and be baptized with His baptism but to sit at His right and left was not His to give. Just what is His cup and baptism? We know He came to serve and not to reign. He came to lay down His life for the brethren. He came because the Father sent Him. He came to teach us His ways in the midst of great opposition.
John 15:18 If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you.
John 15:19 If you belonged to the world, the world would treat you with affection and would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world — are no longer one with it — but I have chosen (selected) you out of the world, the world hates and (detests) you. Amp.
He also told them, “if they persecuted Me, they will persecute you.” vs.20
If Jesus is your Lord and Savior, then you will identify with the scriptures. We all have the opportunity to seek the praises of God or the praises of men. If their is no persecution in your life, then their is also no reward in your life or hereafter.
We must choose to drink His cup and speak out when others would be silent. We must stand up for what is clean and pure and denounce the unclean thing that is accepted by society. We must be willing to be called a fanatic by those in darkness. We must be willing to lose all down here below to gain rewards from above.
Ezekiel 44:23 The priests shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the common or profane, and cause them to distinguish between the clean and unclean. Amp.
He has made us kings and priests and this is our calling.
11 Thessalonians 1:5 This is is positive proof (persecutions) of the just and right judgment of God — to the end that you may be deemed deserving of His kingdom… for the sake of which you are also suffering.
This is the only time we have that we are called to suffer. This is our only chance to drink the cup that He drank. How close do you want to be to Jesus? Is He your all in all? What matters to you the most in your Christian walk?
Is it all about Likes, Comments, and Followers? I thought we were to draw others to follow Jesus, not to follow us. I do not expect others to like what I say most of the time. However, I do believe there is a small remnant who will agree with me most of the time. They are the ones I believe the Father may have chosen for a special seat. It is not for the multitudes.
Romans 15:3 For Christ gave no thought to His own interests, to please Himself: but as it is written, The reproaches and abuses of those who reproached and abused You fell on me.
