PSALM 27:4-6 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will seek after, inquire for and (consistently) require, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord (in His presence) all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty (the sweet attractiveness and delightful loveliness) of the Lord, and to meditate, consider and inquire in His temple.
5. For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.
6. And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent I will offer sacrifices and shouting of joy; I will sing praises to the Lord.
Seek – c) to search out (by any method, spec. in worship or prayer), to strive after, ask, beg, beseech, desire, enquire, procure, make request, require.
Beauty – c) agreeableness, delight, splendor or grace, pleasantness.
David is praying about the enemies that are all around him. But his focus is on the Lord and is wanting nothing more than to dwell in the House of the Lord. It would be so easy for him to see the danger, but his heart wants to see the beauty of the Lord. This is the key to victory. He knows that in the day of trouble, he will be safe.
He will be lifted high upon a rock just like Moses and there he knows he will be safe. Ex 33:21
The beauty that David has seen has made a hunger in his heart that nothing else can satisfy. It is the one thing that he needs above all others. So what does he do about this need? He seeks after what he needs. Seek is just another word for pray. He is asking the Lord to let him live in the house of the Lord all the days of his life.
I believe his prayer was for the body of Christ because it was answered when Jesus died on the cross and made a way for all men to come boldly to the Throne of Grace. He made a way for us because it is His will for us to be near to Him always.
He wants us all to come into the secret place and dwell under the shadow of His wings where no foe can come. Psalm 91 is the perfect psalm. Verses 9 and 10 are saying that if we make the Lord our refuge and our dwelling place that no evil, plague or calamity will befall us. Perfect protection for the last days. This is the answer to David’s prayer. He goes on to say the angels will preserve you in all your ways (verse 11).
I was hanging curtains over my glass door not too long ago. I did not think it would be a problem. But when I got up on the stool I had to use both hands to hold the curtain rod and it was very heavy. I lost my balance and I knew I was going to fall. But all of a sudden I stopped just like someone caught me. I know it was an angel.
I just turned 71 but I do not feel 71. The Lord helps me so much everyday. I can do things now that I could not do when I was younger because He is my helper. And it is wonderful. I sing Psalm 91 from the Phil Driscoll CD, Selah 2 everyday. I know He is My protector because of the many trials I have had. He has proven to me over and over that He is here.
I hope this song blesses you like it does me. He is singing from the Message Bible and the music is not written ahead of time but flowing from the Holy Spirit with many heavenly sounds. Although they do get a little silly at the beginning, just be patient.
