ROMANS 4:18-21

18. For Abraham, human reason for hope being gone, hoped on in faith that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been promised, so numberless shall your descendants be.

19. He did not weaken in faith when he considered the utter impotence of his own body, which was as good as dead because he was about a hundred years old, or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s deadened womb.

20. No unbelief or distrust made him waver or doubtingly question concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God,

21. Fully satisfied and assured that God was able and mighty to keep His word and to do what He had promised. Amp.

Abraham was keeping his spiritual eyesight upon God and not his circumstances. We have God’s promises all through the Bible. We too must keep our eyes on the promise and the promiser. We must not look at our own weakness, as Abraham ignored the impossibilities that his body and that of Sarah, his wife suggested.

We must believe that God is fully able to perform what He has promised to us. The Lord has promised to bring His recompense at the end. We must believe that He will take care of us when times get rough. All will reap what they have sowed. We want to be positively ready for the day of His return.

What do we need:

  1. We must keep our eyes upon the Promise of God and His power.
  2. We must keep our eyes off our circumstances.
  3. We must keep our eyes off our weaknesses
  4. We must not listen to the lies of the enemy.

Abraham grew strong as he gave praise and glory to God. We are always to sing our praises to the Lord and be empowered by His presence. That is where we become strong.

PSALM 95:12-13

12. Let the field be exultant, and all that is in it! then shall all the trees of the wood sing for joy.

13. Before the Lord, for He comes, for He comes to judge and govern the earth!..

  1. Confidence like Abraham’s comes from that assurance, and confidence of the Holy Spirit. It’s important for believers to know this in the depths of their own spirits more than in the mind or memory. It may be like that well spring that Jesus spoke of in John 4:14, “a well of water springing up into eternal life”. Our hope is confidence, without it we cannot believe.
