“THE HERITAGE OF JACOB” JUNE 3, 2022 SCRIPTURE AND SONG

GENESIS 28:13-15

13. And behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land where-on thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

14. And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all families of the earth be blessed.

15. And, behold, I am with thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. KJV

This is the promise the Lord gave to Jacob as he dreamed about a ladder where the angels ascended and descended to and from the earth. He was blessed as not many have been blessed. That is why this is called the Heritage of Jacob, Isaiah 58:14. It is a promised blessing in the fasting Chapter that is for us if we manage to get to the end.

He is promising him many children for many generations to come. Then what is the blessing that comes out of the children but Jesus where all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Jacob awoke and named this place the House of God or Bethel, the gate of heaven. Then he vowed to give the Lord a tenth of all that God gives to him. This was always a special place to Jacob and the Lord had him return there often.

This is the first place he went after his father Isaac blessed him. I believed the Lord was preparing Jacob for the journey he was beginning. He had never had an encounter with the Lord of that proportion, and I am sure it made quite an impact on him. He knew the blessing from Isaac was real and that gave him faith to seek the Lord for help from that day forward.

He is an example to us. We know we are to pray unceasingly. We must believe that our prayers are being heard and answered so we can continue on our journey. Jacob suffered many hard trials but at the end of his life he was thankful to God for the blessings of seeing not only Joseph again but his sons also.

He blessed them as he had been blessed by his father and then he died fully blessed by the Lord. Let us also seek the Heritage of Jacob. It is meant for us all.
