And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. KJV.

Follow -d) to take as a model, imitate, to accept the authority of, obey, to watch or listen to closely.

How do we become fishers of men?

First, we must follow the Lamb wherever He goes. We must give up any plans of our own and conform to His ways of thinking and doing. The Father has given His Son the details and we need not change them.

John 12:24 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just one grain; never becomes more but lives by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.

25. Anyone who loves his life loses it. But anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on the earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever. Amp.

Jesus is our example. He was here for one purpose. He knew where He belonged and knew how much better heaven is than earth. If we compare this life to the one, we could have in heaven, then how could we love this one? This does not mean that we are to give up our responsibilities and not care for our families. We still must be the example that is right.

It is insulting to the Lord to want to live in a fallen world where sin abounds and the prince of darkness rules. We must have the right attitude about our purpose on this earth. Why are we here? We each have a calling just like the disciples. We have been given an opportunity to make a difference in others’ lives and therefore have a great reward awaiting.

We must take inventory of our life and see who sits on the throne of our heart. We all have the opportunity to give our life to Jesus and then He comes to reign in our life. We must choose to give Him control, giving Him our will following His desires for us and no longer our own.

Many say they are Christians after they have prayed the sinners’ prayer. But all do not yield their lives to Him. They may live a good life and go to Church, but still serve self. This is not what Jesus taught. He has a different plan for each of us and it is more wonderful than anything we could possibly think up on our own.

How do we die like a grain of wheat? It happens in solitude where not one sees but the Lord. A grain of wheat is in the ground out of sight. We must come to Him in the secret place and spend time getting to know Him before He will use us in any capacity. Many do works that He did not initiate because they have not allowed Him to have control. These works will not survive the test that is coming but will be burned up in judgment.

When you spend time alone with Him you see how there is nothing in this world for you because it is so great spending time with Him. He reveals to us the greatness that is awaiting us in heaven. Then everything about this world we begin to reject.

Following Jesus becomes the true, deep joy of our hearts. Then He will make us fishers of men because our heart has changed with Him on the throne!
