PSALM 86:15-17

15. But you, O Lord are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy and loving-kindness and truth.

16. O turn to me, and have mercy and be gracious to me; grant strength—might and inflexibility to temptation — to Your servant, and save the son of Your handmaiden.

17. Show me a sign of (Your evident) goodwill and favor, that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame because You, Lord, will show Your approval of me when you help and comfort me. Amp.

This Psalm is a prayer of David. We can study all that he says and be on the right track with God. He first states how needy he is and repents of any sins he may have committed always asking for mercy. Then he asks for mercy and for the Lord to teach him His ways and fear His name.

What are His ways but to take up the cause of the poor and needy and lift them up? David asks for a sign to show his enemies the Lord’s approval of him when he is comforted by Him.

This is also the Lord’s way. He showed His approval of Jesus in so many ways. But He waited until they thought they had won. Darkness covered the land while Jesus was on the cross, Matt. 27:45.

Then after His death the curtain veil of the temple was rent from top to bottom, the earth did quake, verse 51. Graves were opened and many bodies of the saints arose and appeared to many, verses 52-53. Those watching feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God,” verse 54.

Acts 1:3 To whom also He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

This was the way He showed His approval of Jesus at His death. Just think of what is to come. What a glorious day that will be when He opens the sky and makes His entrance on that majestic white horse. He will always have the last Word.

Malachi 3:17-18 And they shall be Mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up My Jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth His own Son that serveth Him.

18. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not. KJV

He is stating that in the last days He will make a distinction between His people the same way He did for His Son. He will protect them supernaturally in impossible situations that will show His approval of them. Yes, what a glorious day that will be.
