6. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense and my fortress; I shall not be moved.
7. With God rests my salvation and my glory; my rock of unyielding strength and impenetrable hardness, and my refuge is in God!
8. Trust, lean on, rely on and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us — a fortress and a high tower. Selah.
Refuge -d) a shelter or protection from danger, difficulty, etc., a place of safety.
Strength -d) 3. power to resist attack.
Defend -d) protect, to act for.
If we give our life to the Lord, you can be sure of being attacked by opposition whether physical or spiritual. We do not have the means to fight these battles on our own.
Luke 10:19 Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and to overcome all the powers of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.
It is by faith in the Word of God that we can fight these battles. We must believe all He says to us in His Word and hang on for dear life. He has given us His strength with the power to resist the Devil so he will flee (as we must also submit ourselves unto God). If we go our own way, Satan will not flee. This teaches us just how we are to live for the Lord.
Trust is a language of love. You can make Him Lord and follow Him, repent and obey Him. But when a child is sick, is it easy to trust? Can you say, “It is well with my soul?” Is He really your refuge when you do not like what is happening in your life?
This is the time to come to Him after your prayer time, sit down with your Bible and pour out your heart before Him. He is the great I Am! He will be whatever you need Him to be. He is our strength and our song when we are unable to stand and sing.
He will lift us up out of the painful struggle and keep us going. We have to come to Him and start talking about our problem. Your words will show you what is in your heart. Your answer will be in the midst of them. We have to leave our problem with Him, then we can get up knowing He is in control. He will give a scripture that makes it fact.
If you make this a practice in your life, it will become your place of refuge. You will feel His love more and more each time. Then the next painful trial that comes, you will know what to do. You will know He is there waiting for you to come and pour out your heart to Him. And you will love doing it because He is always there with his gentle loving-kindness to pour into the place that you just poured out to Him.
STREAMS IN THE DESERT
When at first affliction comes upon us, how everything gives way! Our clinging tendril hopes are snapped, and our heart lies prostrate like a vine that the storm has torn from its trellis; but when the first shock is past, and we are able to look up and say, “It is the Lord,” faith lifts the shattered hopes once more, and binds them fast to the feet of God. Thus, the end is confidence, safety and peace.
