The Carrington Event was a powerful geomagnetic storm back on September 1-2, 1859. A CME hit Earth’s magnetic field and caused the largest storm on record.
It was observed by British Astronomers’ Richard Carrington and Richard Hodgson. The storm caused auroral displays and damage to the telegraph system.
It is said that if it happened today, it would cause widespread electrical blackouts and greater computer malfunction. It would cause massive problems.
The auroral displays were said to be of indescribable softness and delicacy that seemed to envelope everything upon which it found rest. Each color gave way to another more beautiful than the last. It was reported as a scene of almost unspeakable beauty that saw nature at her best. Many thought it to be a preview of the last days.
