ISAIAH 51:16 KJV
And I have put My Words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of Mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art My people.
The Lord is sending a message of His promise and comfort to His people, Zion. The whole chapter is filled with good things that He promises to now come to pass. He says to harken and listen to His voice. That a judgment will proceed out from Him for a light to the people. When they see this judgment, they will see the arm of the Lord.
His righteousness is also going out and they will trust. He says to Lift up your eyes to the heavens and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner; but My salvation shall be forever, and righteous shall not be abolished. verse 6.
He is telling His people what is coming and what is important. Then He says fear not men. Awake and put on strength. And therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing and they will have everlasting joy and sorrow will flee away. He will bless His people with strength and joy everlasting.
Then He rebukes them by addressing their fears. He is saying that if it is Me that comforts you, then why are you afraid of man that shall die? He will take away your fear and will pour it out upon your tormentors.
After reading what the whole chapter is about, what is verse 16 about?
When He puts His Words in our mouth, that gives us strength and power. It is by His Words that the heavens and earth were created. He is putting that power in the words that we speak. Then He covers us with His hand as He creates a new heaven and earth.
How special He sees us that He would take such care for us. He makes it so personal. He puts His Words in our mouth. What are we to do with His Words?
Matthew 12:37 For by your words you will be justified and acquitted and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced. Amp.
We are accountable for every word we speak. Verse 34 says, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. If we do not let the Lord cleanse our hearts, we will be saying all manner of wrong. Our fruit is who we are becoming and that shows in our words. If we are angry or judgmental, we will know by what comes out of our mouth.
But if we have been cleansed by His Spirit and His words flow out of our mouth, they will be filled with love and will edify and will show the way to the lost. We must pay attention to what we speak. If we take these things to Him and leave them there, He will be forever faithful to us and make all the wrong right.
Dear Lord Jesus please help us to learn to speak only your Words of the Spirit and not our words of the flesh. Thank you for loving us so much that you would impart such a wonderful blessing. Help us to speak carefully and cautiously with your love always. Cleanse our hearts of any and all things that are offensive to you and unclean in your sight. Thank you, Jesus!
