9. What shall therefore the Lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandman, and give the vineyard to others.
10. And have ye not read this scripture; The Stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner. KJV
This is a parable about the owner of a vineyard who rent it out to vinedressers and left the country. When it came time to collect the fruit from his vineyard, he sent many servants to collect what was his. They beat them and treated them shamefully. Finally, he sent his son believing they would respect him. But they put him to death.
The Pharisees heard what He said and believed He was speaking of them. That is when they began plotting against Him.
Is this not what has happened all through the bible? He would send His prophets to the kings, and they would not like what they heard and persecute the messenger. He is the keeper of His spiritual vineyard. He has sent many of His people who were rejected and will be given a great reward.
Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He has the Highest rank other than the Father. The Father sent His only Son to the earth to redeem mankind. He is the most important part of our firm foundation. If we do not give Him the respect He deserves, we will also lose our fruit from His vineyard. He is the Chief Cornerstone without which there is nothing.
When He returns to rule and reign on the newly created earth many will receive rewards who have not been heard or seen. Many will wonder why they received such a reward. You do not always have to be seen by others to do the work of the Lord.
Mark 12 is built around this parable. The most important verse in Mark 12 is verse 30.
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. KJV
It is our first duty to minister to the Lord. We are to love Him with not only all of our heart, soul and mind, but with all of our strength. Sometimes ministry gets to be more important than the Lord. Satan will do his best to get your priorities all out of order.
Church activities can be very time consuming. Many believe they are serving the Lord, when they actually have no time to pray or be alone with Him. And yet they are content to live that way. Church can become an idol, if it is not birthed in prayer and communion with Jesus. This is the vineyard.
If we are not producing the proper fruit, He will give it to others. What is the proper fruit? Are we becoming more like Jesus? Are we more loving and Christlike in all our ways? We should always examine our hearts before Him, asking if there is anything that is in the way of our relationship to Him. He will daily keep us and prepare our hearts to be ready. We just have to put ourselves in that spot so He can do what He does!
