- Sing, O barren, you who did not cry aloud, you who did not travail with child! For the (spiritual) children of the desolate one will be more than the children of the married wife, says the Lord.
- Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; spare not, lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.
- For you shall spread abroad to the right hand and to the left, and your offspring will possess the nations, and make the desolate to be inhabited. Amp.
This scripture is talking about the New Jerusalem above the Messianic kingdom of Christ, is free and she is our mother. Gal.4:26
Abraham was given the promise of a child in his old age, in which Sarah and him were both past the child barring years. In Genesis 15:5, the Lord brought Abram outside his tent into the starlight and said, Look now toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to number them. Then He said to him, so shall your descendants be.
I doubt that Abram could have enlarged his tent big enough for the blessing. He is not speaking only to Abram because Sarah is married. But this is the beginning of the spiritual offspring of Israel. We know Abram did not see his offspring multiply to the stars in the sky. His descendants came from Isaac and Jacob and grew from there.
Isaiah 54:13 Your spiritual children shall be disciples — taught of the Lord and obedient to His will; and great shall be the peace and undisturbed composure of your children. Amp.
Back in the days of Abram, it was considered a curse from God if a woman did not bare children. They knew they were a blessing from God. They needed help on their farms and the more children they had, the more help they had. They wanted someone to leave their estate to.
Romans 9 is all about the promise and to whom the promise belongs. It is not about the children of the body of Abraham. It is about spiritual Israel. Esau became Israel’s enemy. And his grandfather was Abraham.
Verse 13 says it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Jacob loved God more than Esau did when he sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. It just was not that important to Esau.
But then He says it is not about man’s willingness but on God’s having mercy on him. The Lord does have more mercy on those who love Him and serve Him with all of their heart. Then I believe He chooses their offspring and they are blessed by the mercy of God. All men belong to God. You cannot come to the Lord unless He draws you to Him (John 6:44). That is why prayer is so important. He makes the decision.
Verse 27 says only a remnant will be saved. Why is that, if God can save whoever He wants?
Verse 32 says they (Israel) did not depend on faith but on what they could do — relying on the merit of their works. They stumbled over the Stumbled Stone.
There is only one who is righteous in God’s eyes and that is His perfect Son Jesus. If we bring any offering or work of our own hands to Him He will reject it as He did Cain’s offering. We are flesh and under the curse and not clean enough to approach Him on our own.
That is why it is so important for us to learn to hear His voice and to be led by the Spirit. Either we set our minds on and pursue things that gratify the flesh or the things that gratify the Spirit. The flesh is not acceptable but in opposition to Him (Romans 8:4-7).
The mind of the flesh is death. The mind of the Holy Spirit is life and soul-peace now and forever. There are many churches who do their own thing in the name of Jesus. These works will not stand when He comes. If they are not birthed by the Holy Spirit they will fall away.
