But on Mount Zion (in Jerusalem) there shall be deliverance, for those who escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their own (former) possessions. Amp.
Deliverance – d) a freeing or being freed.
Mount Zion – c) OT a term for Jerusalem – the city of David, a permanent capital, mountain of Jerusalem; a monumental or guiding pillar – a desert, solitary place, wilderness.
Recompense – d) to repay a person; to compensate; reward.
15. For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you, your dealing will return upon your head.
The Lord was talking to Esau’s descendants for their treatment of Israel. Israel was in distress over the violence they were suffering. Whether God’s people suffer due to their sin’s or the chastisement of the Lord, others are not to judge, ridicule and make matters worse for them.
Instead of Esau lending Israel a helping hand, they gloated and were as one of the enemy. Now Esau is being judged for their treatment of Israel. The Lord said you should not have looked with delight on their misery. (vs.13) So now what you have done will come back on your own head.
But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance. He will look on His remnant and set them free. It is not about how holy they are, but about how just and good the Lord is. When you give your life to the Lord, you become an immediate target for the attacks from the enemy. It is part of being a Christian. Others will look from afar and wonder why so much suffering?
They should know they are being tested for how they treat those who are in the fire. What ever their reaction, it will come back upon them good or evil. But the Lord will recompense His people for whatever they have lost or was stolen. So there is never any reason to pull away from the refining process or battles with the enemy.
The Lord is in control and will always make all things work for our good. (Rom. 8:28) God always has a plan for us and He knows no defeat. We will eventually come out on top if we keep believing and endure to the end.
And what is the end of the matter? Esau will be despised exceedingly. Mount Zion will be the Lord’s and His people will go up to rule and judge Mount Esau. What is the blessing that Isaac gave to Jacob instead of Esau?
Genesis 27:28 And may God give you of the dew of the heavens and of the fatness of the earth and abundance of grain and new wine;
29. Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Let everyone be cursed who curses you, and favored with blessings who blesses you. Amp.
The Hebrew definition for dew is covering. The Hebrew definition for fatness is rich dish dish and fertile field. Jacob will be blessed with abundance while Esau is judged.
Psalm 102:12 You will arise and have mercy and loving kindness for Zion, for it is time to have pity and compassion for her, yes, the set time has come — the moment designated. Amp.
