73. That covenant He sealed by oath to our forefather, Abraham,
74. To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our foes, might serve Him fearlessly,
75. In holiness (divine consecration) and righteousness (that is, in accordance with the everlasting principles of right) within His presence, all the days of our life. Amp.
The Lord made a covenant or contract with Abraham concerning all who would keep the contract. Israel proved that they could not keep the contract, so It became null and void. When one side fails to keep their part of the deal, the Lord does not have to keep His part of the deal. That is why it is a covenant. That is why He sent Jesus.
The Lord could have said I will deliver without anything required from them, but He did not. He says in verses 74-75 that He would deliver from the hand of our foes that we might serve Him fearlessly, in holiness, consecrated to Him, all the days of our life. That is His plan and will for each of us. He puts in the word “might.” We have to choose to serve Him and serve Him fearlessly.
Hebrews 8:13 When God speaks of a new covenant or agreement, He makes the first one obsolete — out of use. And what is obsolete — out of use and annulled because of age is ripe for disappearance and to be dispensed with altogether. Amp.
The Jewish people of today who do not believe in Jesus still believe the covenant is good. They do not read the New Testament. The Lord proved by the Jewish people that mankind could not serve Him on their own. They failed time after time. Without Jesus there is no salvation for mankind whether they believe it or not.
We therefore have a New Covenant that cannot fail. Hebrews 10:14 For by a single offering He has forever completely cleansed and perfected those who are consecrated and made holy.
We must keep our part of the deal by our faith in Jesus and the atoning blood of His sacrifice. If we put our trust and faith in Jesus with a personnel confident reliance on all that He is, then we are justified, made righteous, acquitted and judged acceptable in His sight. Rom.3:20
It is no more by works and observing the Laws set down by Moses, though we still must obey the Law. It is by a relationship between the Lord and us, drawing us to Himself in love and teaching us His ways. That is when we can become holy. It is through His holiness living in us and not of ourselves anymore.
It is all about the goodness and the power of Jesus working in us leading us to a life without fear. When we give all to Him, He gives all to us. Why should we fear? If Satan sees Jesus in you, He knows his limitations. He can do only what will work for your good. We can rest knowing we are safe in the everlasting arms of His love.
I LOVE THIS POEM!
God is in every tomorrow,
therefore I live for today.
Certain of finding at sunrise,
guidance and strength for the way;
power for each moment of weakness,
hope for each moment of pain,
comfort for every sorrow,
sunshine and joy after the rain.
