LUKE 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that Holy Thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. KJV
This is the Word of God spoken by the angel to Mary before the birth of Jesus. What was her response? “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to Thy Word.” How much opposition did she have? I am sure more than is given to us in the Word of God. She did not doubt what was said, nor did she react in fear of what might be instore for her.
When she visited Elizabeth, she was praising God for His goodness with so much thanksgiving for what was about to happen and how it would affect many. I believe her eyes were never on the circumstances but only on the power and the promise of God.
Can you imagine being in labor and riding on a donkey? How painful that must have been only to end up on the hay on the ground instead of a hospital with drugs to help with the pain. We are so spoiled. I believe she never lost her thankfulness as she awaited to see the Savior’s face for the first time. How truly blessed was she?
She is a good example to us. When the Lord gives us a promise, do we continually thank Him for what He is about to do? Do we believe one day and doubt the next? I know I do. Do we let Satan steal our faith with his lies and opposition? I know I do. What can, we do?
1Peter 5:5-9 tells us to:
- Be subject to elders
- Clothe yourself with humility
- Humble yourself
- Cast your care upon Him
- Be vigilant (alert to danger)
1Peter 5:9 Withstand him:
- Be rooted
We have to decide that we are going to fight this battle and not be a wimp and slip away into the flesh and ignore the fight. We cannot sit in front of the TV or any Screen eating our favorite foods and indulging the flesh believing the devil will leave if we ignore him. He never takes a break. We must put him in his place everyday.
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. KJV
He has given us power and authority to bind the spirits that try to stop us from receiving the blessings we have been promised. There are many prayers the Lord has said yes to and then here comes Satan to steal it from you.
You must spend time covering that situation in the blood of Jesus, telling him to leave. You don’t have to yell at him. I think it in my mind and it works. But if I do not, he gets his foot in the door. This has to be done everyday until the Lord says, “That’s enough.”
Malachi 3:10-12 says that if we give him the right offerings, He will rebuke the devourer. Satan will not steal the fruit of our ground and all nations will call us blessed. (Just like Mary)
He does not want only the tithe of our income but the offering of our life, walking in holiness to Him. He will come and purify us and make us what we need to be and put the devil under our feet. That is His Word and Promise to us!
