16. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your Word.
17. Deal Bountifully with Your servant, that I may live; and I will observe Your Word (hearing, receiving, loving and obeying it). Amp.
Delight – d) to give great pleasure.
Statute – d) an established rule or law.
Bounteous – d) giving without restraint, generous, abundant, ample.
This Psalm of David has 176 verses, the longest of the psalms. He is pouring out his heart to the Lord in every way. These two verses alone have great meaning. What is he saying?
He finds great pleasure in His laws. He has studied them so often that he knows he can never forget them. When you line up Jesus with the Word, what do you get? — Jesus is the Word. He is saying that he loves Jesus and the Word. He receives it. He loves it. And he will obey it. Only then can he be in a position to be dealt bountifully by the Lord. He knows there is eternal life in His statutes so he may live. Only then can he become the King of Israel.
If Jesus is the Word and a people or nation trample upon His statutes by casting them aside and saying, “No, we will not do that. We will change it to mean we can marry the same sex if we choose. We can allow our children to be whatever gender they choose. We will allow our schools to leave God and His statutes out of their curriculum. We will allow abortion and change the name to Reproductive Care.” What are they doing?
They are trampling not only on His statutes but on Jesus, because He is the Word of God, and yet expect a bountiful lifestyle.
This nation was to be a Light to other nations. It started out based on the Word of God. The founding fathers were great men of God in their day. They would fast and pray about everything and would base the Laws they passed on the Word of God.
When Abraham Lincoln was President during the Civil War, he made many Proclamations of Days of Prayer and Fasting. He told everyone to go to their House of Worship and repent of their sins and pray for the mercy of God to be poured out upon a broken and hurting nation.
What did we hear when reports of the Coronavirus began?
Jerusalem —- What is in the middle of Jerusalem —- USA
We were called to be a light to the nations. While other nations were greatly affected by the coronavirus and needed to know how to find the true answer that only comes with repentance, we gave them masks and told them to stay in doors until the angel of death passed over. That is not the Light we are to shine. Is it too late to repent?
Isaiah 24:3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled; for the Lord hath spoken this Word.
4. The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.
5. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. KJV
Is that not what this nation has done? They have changed the laws. The Light has gone out. Nations are hurting because of the Great USA. What would Abraham Lincoln and King David say? I am sure the media would treat them with great sarcasm and ridicule.
The rest of Isaiah 24 is about the end of the earth. There will be a remnant that will lift up their voice and sing for the majesty of the Lord. They will not trample on the most precious gift we have been given. They will be hearing, receiving, loving and obeying it! (Verse 14)
SUBJECT — JUDGMENT — CH SPURGEON
In every place where His cause and crown have been disregarded, ruin has followed; sin has been a blight on nations throughout history and has left their palaces in ruins.
He crushes great powers until they cannot cause trouble. How glorious will be the ultimate victory of Jesus in the day of His appearing, when every enemy shall be destroyed.
