PSALM 84:11-12 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows present grace and favor and future glory — honor, splendor and heavenly bliss! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
12. O lord of hosts, blessed — happy, fortunate (to be envied) — is the man who trusts in You, (leaning and believing on You, committing all and confidently looking to You, and that without fear or misgiving)! Amp.
Grace – c) graciousness, kindness, favor, beauty, pleasant, precious, (well-favored).
Glory – c) splendor, copiousness, honor.
Splendor – d) great luster; brilliance, magnificent richness or glory.
Uprightly -c) integrity, truth, without blemish, complete, full, perfect, undefiled.
Trust – d) firm belief in the honesty, reliability of a person or thing, confident expectation.
This is a mighty blessing. The Lord will be a Sun and Shield to us bringing His protection that nothing can withstand. What does the sun do but give us light and makes plants for food to grow, keeps us warm in the cold and makes the earth shine with His beauty.
He bestows such wonderful blessings on the man who walks uprightly. It is about how we walk. Do we go our own way and ask Him to bless it, or do we ask which is the right way to go letting Him lead the way?
The Lord spoke to me in a prophecy early in my walk and told me “not to force my way in any situation.” I have shared this before. At that time, I did not know I was doing that. It made me pay close attention to what I did. We can easily get in the habit of doing our own thing. But it is a trap.
We must walk in obedience to the Holy Spirit always conforming to His ways. We need to know His voice and direction. He speaks to the still place in our heart. If there is fear or if we are in a hurry, we may not hear correctly. He does want to speak to us. But it has to be His way and we have to learn to be still and wait. Remember He spoke to Samuel but had stopped speaking to Eli. We must be like Samuel and not Eli.
When we do hear a voice giving us direction, we must still test the spirits, 1John 4:1. We cannot go only by a voice. We must pray and bind the spirits in this situation so Satan will not interfere. The Lord is always in control of what we hear and is teaching us something.
Then when we go forward we look for His signs that will lead us in the right path. One way He has shown me for years is with numbers. Anything to do with a 6 is wrong. I have a list that has always proved positive and fruitful that I can rely on. I stay away from items that cost 5.99, 6.00, 59.99, or 60.00 dollars.
I have bought things at that price and there was always something wrong with what I bought. We have to remember that He is already there and knows what we will face and will make it work for our good. That is His promise. No reason to fear. We do not have to know everything because He does. We are to follow Him expecting His goodness every step of the way.
SUBJECT — OUR SUN AND SHIELD — CH SPURGEON
Under the most favorable circumstances, enjoying earth’s pleasures cannot be compared to the delights of the service of God. To feel his love, to rejoice in the person of the Savior, to survey the promises and feel the power of the Holy Spirit in applying precious truths to the soul, are joys which unbelievers cannot understand. A brief glimpse of the love of God is better than ages spent in the pleasures of sensual gratification.
