PSALM 59:16-17 But I will sing of Your mighty strength and power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy and loving-kindness in the morning; for You have been a defense— a fortress and a high tower—and a refuge in the day of my distress.
17. Unto You, O my strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, my fortress and high tower, the God Who shows me mercy and steadfast love. AMP
Refuge – d) shelter or protection from danger, difficulty, etc.
Steadfast -d) firm, fixed, or established, constant; not changing or fickle
David is the author of this Psalm written at a time when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him. He could have fought them in the flesh before he prayed and asked for help. But he did not. He knew that his God was the answer. He was thanking Him for the answer before it came with a song of praise in the morning.
John 10:10 The thief comes only in order that he may steal, kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance—to the full, till it overflows. Amp.
We have an enemy who has sent his demons to our house in order to kill us. They have studied our every move. They know our weaknesses and our strengths. They know how to wreak havoc in our lives. But they are only allowed to do what the Lord allows that will work for our good and not for our destruction if we are obedient to Him.
We must like David, spend time praying with thanksgiving and with a song of praise. If we try to fight our own battles with an arm of flesh, we may get terribly burned. Just like when some traveling Jewish exorcists tried to rebuke an evil spirit, the evil spirit retorted, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then they were attacked by the man who had the evil spirit within him. Acts 19:13-16
James 4:7 So be subject to God. Stand firm against the devil; resist him and he will flee from you. Amp.
Satan flees when he sees Jesus in our heart. The only way that happens is if He is our only refuge. That means we run to Him instead of man for help. And that is with faith knowing He will answer us and be our safe refuge. That will definitely birth a song in our heart of thankful praise.
Then as we see the forces of darkness being driven back in our lives, we can look for the blessed afterward which always comes at the end of the battle or trial. He wants us to be blessed with the abundant life that He suffered for us to have. Let us graciously give Him what He desires.
SUBJECT — IMPOSSIBILITY — STREAMS IN THE DESERT
Difficulty is the very atmosphere of miracle. It is miracle in its first stage. If it is to be a great miracle, the condition is not difficulty but impossibility.
