But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
Endures c) to undergo, bear trials, have fortitude, persevere, suffer
Fortitude d) firm courage, patient endurance of trouble, pain, etc.
Patience d) the will or ability to suffer without complaint
Patience is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5:22. None of us were born with patience. Romans 5:3 says hardship and endurance produce patience or a mature character. There is no other way to become a mature believer without submitting to the trials that the Lord sends our way. There are some that we can force our way out of and around. But we will end up stagnant and empty.
I have had a stomach problem for years. It is almost completely healed. But it does still show up when I allow fear in. I am never aware of this fear until I feel the pain. It is good for me for only then do examine my heart and talk to the Lord about it and He always takes it away without much discomfort. If I had gone to the doctor, I would be on medication and maybe have had surgery. But the Lord knew my problem was deeper than that and was more than willing to fix it.
SUBJECT — FAINTING IN AFFLICTION — STREAMS IN THE DESERT
“I cannot bear up any longer, I am fainting under this providence. What shall I do? God tells me not to faint. But what can one do when he is fainting?” …you cease from your own doings. You lean hard. You rest. You lie still and trust. God’s message to us is not, “Be strong and of good courage,” for He knows our strength and courage have fled away. But it is that sweet word, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Do not try to be strong, just be still and know that He is God and will sustain you and bring you through.”
