PSALM 122
- I Was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord!
- Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!
Of course this is another Psalm of David. He is not talking about a building. He is talking about the house of the Lord. This is a holy place where He dwells. It is not a physical building where you can go on Sunday. There are actually more that do not have His presence than do. We must think of His house. It is the place where He lives or dwells. So, it must be Holy.
Psalm 22:3 But You are holy, O you Who dwell in the holy place where the praises of Israel are offered. Amp. C
The scripture does not say that He dwells in the preaching of His people. What is He saying? He loves us and wants to hear how much we love Him. If we love Him, we will delight in singing His praise. We will delight in telling how good He is. If there is love in our heart, there will be love coming out of our mouths. If the songs that we sing at church do not reflect His greatness and His beauty, then we should be disturbed.
There are many songs that do not reflect His goodness but instead talk about man’s weakness. If we do not take His holiness serious then we will not be allowed in His presence. And if we are not allowed in His presence then we will not be filled with His presence.
We need His presence to fight the battles we have in this world. We enter His gates with thanksgiving in our hearts and into His courts with praise, Psalm 100:4. We must be thankful. And sometimes that is hard. But we must learn to live in a thankful state because we should.
Psalm 122 is telling us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and to want peace within her walls. It is the city of God that He will dwell with us in forever. We should be mindful of where that place is.
