PSALM 4
5. Offer just and right sacrifices; trust (lean on and be confident) in the Lord. Amp. C.
This is a Psalm of David. What is he telling us? He was saying their animal sacrifices were not just and right. I thought this was more a New Testament thing. But David knew because he was so close to the Lord. He knew the animal sacrifices were just a symbol to teach what the true sacrifice was to be.
Trust is the firm belief in the honesty and confident expectation of someone or thing. There are so many other things to put our faith in these days. We have doctors, police, money and the internet just name a few. The Lord wants our trust.
Jeremiah 17:5 Cursed with great evil is the strong man who trusts and relies on frail man, making weak human flesh his arm, and whose mind and heart turn aside from the Lord.
6. For he shall be like a shrub or a person destitute in the desert and shall not see any good come but shall dwell in the parched places in the wilderness, in uninhabited salt land.
7. Most blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
8. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out its roots by the river and shall not see and fear when the heat comes, but his leaf shall be green, he shall not be anxious and careful in the year of drought, nor shall he cease from yielding fruit. Amp. C.
Revelation 9:4 speaks of being green as a safe place to be. The locusts are told not to injure any green thing. I believe they are talking spiritually like it says in Jeremiah 17:8.
These scriptures make it plain to us what it means to put our trust in the Lord or in man or an arm of flesh. The flesh is sinful and came from dust. The Lord is holy and pure and perfect in every way. It is in our best interest to trust in Him. He is more than worthy of our trust and faith.
How many times do we go to man for help when we could go to God? The main reason being we want something we can see and something immediate. Faith is what we do not see with our eyes.
When we bring our problems to Him, we are to leave them there. He does not have to give any details about how He is going to take care of them. He expects us to trust and believe. An arm of flesh is the easy way. How many times do we take the easy way?
