PSALM 16
5. The Lord is my chosen and assigned portion, my cup; You hold and maintain my lot.
Psalm 16 is always filled with hope. The Lord is the main theme. It is not about us and our sins. It is all about the power of the Lord seeing us through. David is saying that the Lord maintains His lot. He is taking good care of us and seeing us through.
It does not say that David learned to live a perfect infallible life. He says because he has set the Lord continually before him, he is at rest. We must keep the Lord before us and not the world or all it holds dear. We must be seriously careful about how we spend our time.
Therefore, David’s heart is glad. Why, because of the Lord. He can rejoice because of all the Lord has done for him. Not because of what David has done for the Lord or mankind.
No David can expect to be shown the path of life and not be afraad. We have to know that darkness will be all around us. We have to learn how to. dwell in God’s presence. Then there. is fullness of joy and pleasures forever more. That is perfection.
