PSALM 62
7. With God rests my salvation and my glory; my rock of unyielding strength and impenetrable hardness, and my refuge is in God.
8. Trust, lean on, rely on and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us – a fortress and a high tower. Selah, pause and calmly think of that! Amp. C.
This is a song of David. He is stating how God is his strength and refuge. He knows where his salvation lies. He is depending on the Lord for his safety. He has seen over and over how the Lord comes to his rescue.
Now he is telling others to put their trust in the Lord, to rely on Him and put their confidence in Him. That is what faith is. David had confidence that the Lord would always be there when he called out to Him. He would never let him down.
I believe verse 8 is one of the most important verses in the Bible. It says, “pour out your heart before Him.” We have a special privilege here. Our heart gets messed up and filled with nonsense. But we have a place to come where we can get rid of all the nonsense.
The Lord will heal and cleanse our hearts but not without our help. We have a part in our healing and forgiveness. He wants us to know what is in our hearts so we can repent and let things go. We cannot do that if we are not aware of what is there.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it (perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind)? Amp. C.
We do not know all that is in our heart. So, the Lord is allowing us to come to Him and as we begin talking to Him about the things that bother us, we begin to pour it all out to Him. He will give us the words to say and when we are done, we see what we did not see before.
As we talk to Him about all the sinful things we are carrying around with us we see the corruption of it all and repent with tears. We get up from that session with new strength that is unyielding and impenetrable because He placed it there instead of our nonsense. He is so very good to us.
We must make this a habit and continually be cleansed. We must also make sure that we do not make it a gripe session. Complaining is one thing He does not want to hear. We must humbly come to Him knowing that we need His help. That is the only way to come to Him, humbly and worshipfully.
Your words remind me how freeing it is to be honest before God — not with complaints, but with surrender. I love how you highlighted that pouring out our hearts is both our part and His gift, a rhythm of repentance and renewal. This feels less like a lesson and more like an invitation to breathe again in His presence.
