PSALM 29

  1. Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
  2. Give to the Lord the glory due to His name: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness or in holy array.
  3. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon many great waters.
  4. The voice of the Lord is powerful: the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. Amp. C.

Psalm 29 is another Psalm of David. There is a footnote in the Amplified that says this is “The Song of the Thunderstorm.” David new the voice of the Lord and I believe he sang during many thunderstorms. The Lord uses the storms in our lives to draw us to Himself. We can learn mighty things in the storms of life.

There are times in the stormy trials that are very painful, and we tend to let self have a pity party instead of thanking Him for taking the time to show us something that will change us forever. When we are on this side of the trial we cannot see anything good that can possibly come out of our pain. That is the time to be thankful. The more thankful we are the sooner the trial will end.

I have been stuck in some trials for a long time. The Lord is very patient with us and has forever. He will wait as long as it takes. Hopefully it won’t take forever. Since I have learned this, I know that it is smart for me to be thankful and not complain. One definition of patience is the ability to suffer pain without complaining. Sometimes we must just learn to shut up!

But we must never stop being thankful. He loves us and knows what we need. That is when we learn the most about Him. How very valuable our trials are. That is a good enough reason to be thankful. To know Him is the purpose we have been created. That should be a good enough reason to be thankful.
