JOHN 8
12. Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the World. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark but will have the Light which is Life. AMP. C.
DEFINITIONS
Light – c) luminousness
Luminous – d) giving off light; bright, flooded with light, clear, readily understood.
Follow – c) to be in the same way with, to accompany.
Dark – c) KJV- Darkness – dimness, obscurity
Jesus is the Light that brings not only the life that gives us another day but He shows us the way that is flooded with Light and clearly understood. He came to teach us His ways that will always lead us out of the darkness or obscurity where we cannot find the way.
We all must choose to follow Him and obey Him. If we keep doing our own thing following our will and our own desires, our Light will not only go out but we will be walking in darkness. This is not the way to happiness but to sadness.
Isaiah 60:1 Arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you; rise to a new life! Shine —– be radiant with the glory of the Lord: for your Light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. Amp.
Light – c) OT Happiness, bright, clear, morning, sun, illuminous
Darkness -c) OT misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness, withholding the Light.
We are to look away from any circumstance that would cause us pain and fear and rise to a new life in Jesus. When we turn away from self and circumstances, we receive power that increases as we follow Jesus. The darkness is a dangerous place. We must learn to keep our eyes on Jesus and then the darkness is turned to Light, and we get really happy!
We must choose the Light and refuse this world where the darkness lives and rules. There is nothing but misery, destruction and death waiting to destroy.
If you are not happy, something is in the way and you must earnestly seek Him for the answer. He will give it to you, but you must ask and pray. He delights in setting us free. We must not settle for sadness when He promises us joy. He is speaking to you when you are sad saying “this is not from Me, come and let Me fix it.”
Isaiah 60:2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and dense darkness all peoples; but the Lord shall arise upon you, O Jerusalem, and His glory shall be seen on you. Amp. C.
This scripture is talking about the last days. The Lord is making a distinction, and showing who belongs to Him and who does not. The darkness is a path leading to death. Following Jesus is the only path of Light leading to life.
1 John 2:15 Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. Amp.
Love for the things of this world will bring darkness and only temporary satisfaction. This world will pass away and all the lusts that go with it. We must let them go now before it is too late.
This is also a trap for the last days as times grow steadily worse and more evil. As the darkness grows stronger, the Light will outshine it and eventually put it completely out, 2Thess. 2:8. But the choice is ours which one we follow.
QUOTE – CH SPURGEON
How wealthy every believer is and how much he feels it in view of his former slavery! What songs could be sufficient to express our joy and gratitude for such a glorious deliverance and such a bountiful heritage!
More awaits us. The depths of our griefs cannot compare with the height of our happiness. Over the hills faith sees the daybreak in whose light we will enter this abundant place.
