EPHESIANS 5
- Therefore, be imitators of God – copy Him and follow His example – as well-beloved children imitate their father.
- And walk in love – esteeming and delighting in one another – as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God (for you, so that it became) a sweet fragrance. Amp. C.
This scripture is telling us to be like God and imitate His ways. We must learn His ways in order to imitate them. We can know how to treat others the way He treats us. He is always so gentle and loving. His love is unconditional and ours is not. That is a tough one for us. We were all raised with conditional love most probably.
He loves us when we mess up. He loves us when we fail. He loves us all the time. We cannot disappoint Him because He already knows what we are going to do. He has a plan for us. And it will not fail.
If we love others the way He loves us, we will never get mad or disappointed. Wouldn’t that be nice. We would have so much less pain. We would be happy all the time. That is part of His plan. As we learn His love, we are changed. That change is good for us.
We are to be a sacrifice and give ourselves to others for Him following His example. The only way we can do that is by praying to Him and asking Him to help us to do it. We must have the love of Christ in us and His power to perform His will. He is the only Way, Truth and Life. We need Him.
