PSALM 148
14. He has lifted up a horn for His people (giving them power, prosperity, dignity and pre-eminence), a song of praise for all His godly ones, for the people of Israel who are near to Him. Praise the Lord! – Hallelujah!
DEFINITIONS
Horn -c) a horn – a flask – a cornet – a ray of light – power – wine bottle.
Praise -c) “halal” to be clear, to shine, to make a show, to boast; thus to be clamorously foolish; to celebrate, glory, give light.
The word Praise is in Psalm 148, 13 times in the Amplified version. I believe He is telling us to Praise Him with all we have and all we are. He knows what we need, and we need His presence. And Psalm 22 says He inhabits the Praises of His people. And we need Him.
He makes it a fun thing. He loves to bless, and Praise is one of the most wonderful blessings that we have been given. He has lifted up a horn for His people. That means He is playing the horn for us. The definition of horn in this passage means a ray of light and power. When we praise we receive power and light from Him.
How are we to praise Him? Do we just sit still and sing quietly? That is not what the definition says. We are to celebrate and put on a show. We are to give out the light He has given to us. We are to be clamorously foolish. Is that what we are on Sundays and every other day of the week, or do we just do our best not to be noticed?
My late husband Gary and I used to praise and dance at Church with our kids and some of their friends. It was such a joyous time. We ended up leaving that Church after a split and did not dance very much after the split.
After many years I ended up back at that same Church but no dancing. Then one Sunday a few got in the aisles and danced. So, me and my friend went with them, and it was great although my feet and legs did not move like they used to. However, I did receive some disapproving looks.
That week I got my daughter’s tambourine out and started praising and dancing with it. But I remember telling the Lord, “But I don’t want to dance at Church again!” And He spoke to me and said, “You used to not care what other people thought, you did it for me.” I was very convicted.
So, I told my friend Cheryl what the Lord told me and that “I was going to get in the aisle again and praise and dance with my tambourine. You do what you need to do. ” I did get quite a few strange looks. But I did get 1 thumbs up and received by most. And Cheryl did follow me. We have been dancing ever since. It was not only good spiritually but very good exercise for my legs.
I believe with all my heart he gave us His power and light, and we are tremendously blessed.
