PSALM 27
4. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of My life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.
5. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock. KJV
8. You have said, Seek you My face – inquire for and require My presence as your vital need. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord will I seek, inquire for and require (of necessity and on the authority of Your Word.) Amp. C.
Here we have a Psalm of David again praying to the Lord about His presence. He talks about his enemies as he always seems to have them at his heels. He again says though a host encamp against him, he shall not fear. He is confident because he knows the value of seeking to be in the house of the Lord and in His presence. It is no small thing.
David has had a taste of the presence of the Lord and he does not want to visit now and then but he wants to dwell in the house of the Lord so he can gaze upon Him. He knows that He will hide David in His shelter when trouble comes. He will be in the secret place where they are not allowed to come. And because of that he will shout for joy and sing praises to God.
The Lord told David to seek His face as his vital need of necessity. David’s heart cannot dwell at a distance from the Lord. Now he has tasted of His beauty and His glory and nothing else compares.
The question is do we seek the Lord as a vital necessity? He can reveal Himself or not. It is His decision for each of us. He is looking in our hearts to see just how important His presence is to us. Do we seek His face? Do we do everything we know to do to be in His presence? Do we gaze upon His beauty? How many do you know that talk about His face?
That is one thing I like about David Wilkerson and CH Spurgeon. They both talk and teach about the presence, face and voice of the Lord. It made me want to hear His voice and know Him the way they knew Him. It made me seek His face. Now I have time to be alone with Him and am truly blessed.
We must take His Words seriously. He wants to be the most vital and necessary part of our life. He does not want family, career, media or cellphones to intrude upon His domain. He will be Lord of all or none. When He shuts the door He will say, “I don’t know you.”
It is time to seek His face as the most vitally important necessity of your life!
