PSALM 121

2. My help comes from the Lord, Who made Heaven and earth.

3. He will not allow your foot to slip or be moved; He Who keeps you will not slumber.

4. Behold He Who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand the side not carrying a shield.

6. The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.

7. The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life.

8. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and for evermore. Amp. C.

This is a song. The Lord promises to give us a song in the night. I believe He loves to give us a song day or night. He loves it when we sing to Him. If we are depending upon Him for our safety, will He not come through for us when we need Him?

His promise is so special. We could be upset about something. We could be worrying like we are not supposed to do. We could be complaining like we are not supposed to do. But the Lord is telling us here that He will not allow our foot to slip or be moved. He will hold us steady when our faith is shaky. Then why should we worry?

Keep means to protect, guard and defend. If He is our protector, what more do we need? And if He keeps our life from evil, we are safe. We may stumble and fall but He will be right there to catch us and shoo away the evil that is chasing us.

He is around us all the time. How close is He if He is the shade on our right side? It means He is standing close enough to cast His shadow over us. That should build our faith and make us know we are safe.

There is so much chaos in this world today. When is the safe time to go out? We cannot know, but the Lord always knows. We so very much need His protection from the evil that is around every corner. The times are evil.

The key in all of this is us. Do we look to Him to be our help and our keeper? Do we ask Him for guidance. Here we need Pastor Stan’s prayer:

LET MY WORDS BE YOUR WORDS.

LET MY THOUGHTS BE YOUR THOUGHTS.

LET MY HEART BE CLOSE TO YOURS.

When we pray this prayer, we are giving ourselves to the Lord and giving Him control of our life. That is what He wants from us and that is when we are safe. We all need a protector and a keeper. He wants what is best for us. We must learn to give Him control. It may take us awhile to learn but if we keep getting up when we fall and start again, we will make it because we have a perfect keeper!
