PSALM 2
8. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession.
9. You shall break them with a rod of iron: You shall dash them in pieces like potter’s ware.
10. Now therefore, O you kings, act wisely; be instructed and warned, O you rulers of the earth.
11. Serve the Lord with reverent awe and worshipful fear; rejoice and be in high spirits, with trembling (lest you displease Him).
12. Kiss the Son (pay homage to Him in purity) lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, for soon shall His wrath be kindled. O blessed – happy, to be envied are all those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him.
This is a very serious psalm. The Lord is the subject, and He is being given the earth as His possession and inheritance. We can see Him coming back on that white horse with a rod in His hand as He judges the nations.
He is given the earth. What does He do with it? He gets rid of the wicked and cleanses the rest. Then He sets up His Kingdom. He makes the New Jerusalem so He can share all that He has with His bride. He has everything and shares it. We have not seen anything like it! How wonderful He is!
We are told to serve Him with fear and awe. We are to pay homage to Him in purity.
We must do His will. That is what serve means. All that we do for Him must be pure and holy. That is what homage means. There is nothing simple about it.
He wants us to draw near to Him and do it with joy! We need to spend more time happy than sad.
How do we do what we are called to do? By sharing what He has been given. He is always our only answer.
