MATTHEW 28
- Now after the Sabbath, near dawn of the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary went to take a look at the tomb.
- And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled the boulder back and sat upon it. Amp. C.
When the Lord wants to make a statement, He can use whatever means He desires to do so. Here he used an earthquake to roll the stone away and open the tomb for the women to see that Jesus was not there.
I believe the guards were slain in the Spirit because they were in the presence of God, and they fell under His power. The women had been in the presence of Jesus and were sensitive to His touch. They also were fearless. They knew how dangerous it was to come to Jesus’ tomb, but they came anyway.
I think the women of that day were used to being slighted and abused more than the men. They were used to refusing to fear. The men may not have even dealt with fear or they would not have been hiding like children. So, I believe the Lord used an earthquake for the disciples also.
This shows how much the disciples grew between this day and Pentecost. They were not afraid to tell those to whom they preached that they had crucified Jesus and were lost. Although when Jesus found them at Galilee, the scripture says some doubted.
That means that the Lord sent out some who doubted Him to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
This means we have no excuse for obeying the Lord and the calling He gives. We cannot wait for us to be perfect, or we will never go.
Proverbs 1:6 For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom: from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He helps us as we go. If we don’t go where will our help come from? Obedience is always the key to blessings even when we doubt. Faith will grow as we obey.
