EXODUS 4
2. And the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” and he said, “A rod.”
3. And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” And he did so, and it became a serpent (the symbol of royal and divine power worn on the crown of the Pharaohs); and Moses fled from before it.
4. And the Lord said to Moses, “Put forth your hand and take it by the tail.” And he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand. Amp. C.
What lesson is the Lord teaching Moses? He is showing him the power of the enemy is nothing to fear. Moses fled before the serpent in verse 3. He was taking the power of the enemy and using it against the enemy. The Lord will always show us our fears before He delivers us from them. We are to resist fear as any other sin. But we must learn to recognize it before we can resist it.
When we have the Lord in our heart, we also have His power. He does not want us to fear when He is on board our vessel. Moses was taking on a new opportunity. We can never succeed if we are afraid. Moses had to be willing to pick up the serpent. What does this mean to us?
Anytime we begin a new work for the Lord we may back away and worry and try to reason and figure out how to do it. The mind of the flesh is sense and reasoning. In other words, we are trying to do it in our own strength or the flesh, which is not God.
He wants us to pray about it, binding the spirits that are trying to stop us. Then in faith continue on. We must hold our ground and not let the devil stop us. We have all the power of the Almighty at our disposal. Why should we ever fear or not believe. The fearful and unbelievers will have their place in the lake of fire with the murderers, Revelation 21:8.
The Lord wants us to be victorious over the power of the enemy. We will have to jump into the battle and take up his tail and use it. We cannot be afraid if we want to succeed and grow.
