PSALM 12
6. The words and promises of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times over.
7. You will keep them and preserve them, O Lord; You will guard (preserve in KJV) and keep us from this evil generation forever.
DEFINITIONS
Guard -c) to hedge about as with thorns, guard, to protect, attend to, regard, reserve, save, watch.
Preserve -c) maintain, hidden thing, keep.
This is a reminder that there are evil people in this world and that we need protection from the evil that suppresses all around. The Lord knows and is always there to protect us.
We always need His protection. He is telling us that He knows we need it, and He will be there. The word guard means not only to guard but to attend to, save and watch. He is watching over us at all times so we can rest knowing we are safe.
However, we can always leave the hedge and go places that He is not leading us to. We must always pray about where we go. We should not take it for granted that just because someone we know goes somewhere that it is alright for us to go there. We must make sure that we follow the Lamb. If He does not lead us forth then we should stay put.
He also preserves us meaning maintains us. He keeps us going like an engine. He pours in the oil when we are dry. He makes sure everything is running right. He also keeps us hidden and out of sight and we are safe.
We must face that there is evil all around and we need protecting and allow Him to do His job. His Words are pure like Him. They are not like our words. They are pure and holy like Him. We can trust and know that we are protected.
