PSALM 16

8. I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Amp. C.

This is a Psalm of David. We hear his words. He is talking to the Lord. He is stating his case. He is telling of his plight. He is telling of his many blessings. He is telling everything because he is pouring out his heart to the Lord.

He is looking for a safe place from his enemies. He remembers the times the Lord protected him for no reason. But we know the story of David and Bathsheba. So why if David was setting the Lord before him was he moved?

That is the question. Was David setting the Lord before him when he saw Bathsheba?

If David had stopped and prayed for help, he never would have been with Bathsheba. The Lord would have been a wall of fire around him and kept his life from evil. But David was home and not in battle like he normally was. I think he was bored and out of place. He should have been with his men. But they made him stay home from the battle. He was obeying man and not God.

The men were afraid David would be harmed if he kept going to battle. If the Lord was his protector and shield, there was nothing to fear. He was safer on the battlefield than he was on that roof that day.

He took his eyes off of the Lord and He was not continually before him. Bathsheba was before him. Now he was in danger. We cannot leave our place of safety and expect to be safe. We must keep Him first.

11. You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

The true pleasures are at the Lord’s right hand. David left the Lord’s right hand and chose the wrong path. We always have the choice to make. Every day we must choose the Lord’s will for us.

We don’t always know what to do. But if we keep talking to the Lord and asking the way, He will show us. David stopped talking and chose the wrong thing that day. And caused himself a lot of unneeded misery. The Lord cannot lie. If He promises us the path of life, that is what He will provide!
