PSALM 4
- Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness, You have freed me when I was hemmed in and enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me and hear my prayer.
David is having communion with the Lord. He is remembering the things the Lord has done for him and asking for more of them. He is telling him about his situation with the enemy. He is reminding Him of how He does things so He will do them again.
David is then teaching others what is right to do. The amplified uses the word distinction for what the Lord gives to David. It means a quality that makes one superior. Only the Lord can do that. We can look back at so many characters of the Bible and see that they all had distinction. Her is a partial list.
- Joseph
- Daniel
- Abraham
- Moses
- Samson
- Samuel
- Jacob
- Ruth
- Esther
- Isaiah
- Elijah
- Paul
I could go on. But you see how each one is distinguished. Each one has certain traits that make them stand out from others. These traits were given to them from the Lord. David stands above them all. He killed Goliath when he was a small guy. He led armies to win victory after victory, only because the Lord made him to do so.
We can look at Daniel. The Word says that he had an excellent spirit to understand and interpret dreams. He had the Spirit of the holy God. He was distinguished among those in Babylon. That same Spirit was upon Joseph. And we know Paul also stood above the others.
Today we all have the opportunity to be distinguished. We have the Holy Spirit. He has been given to us to help us. But also, to make us shine. We must choose to allow the Holy Spirit to shine. We have to allow Him to come into our heart. He does not come where He is not invited.
We invite the Holy Spirit by our behavior. If we hang onto sinful practices He will leak out. If we are not separate from the world and its lustful, fleshly pleasures, He will leak out. If we hang on to sin, then the devil will come and fill us up. Worse off we will be.
If we give our all to Him, He will come in and bring all of His power and love and goodness that will make us distinguished with His goodness and loving-kindness. He will fill us up to the brim and will start to bubble up like a fountain that will be apparent to those around us.
