MATTHEW 20

16. So those who now are last will be first and those who now are first will be last. For many are called, but few chosen.

28. Just as the Son of man came not to be waited on but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many – the price paid to be set free.

I have read this for years. I did not get it. I agreed with the first workers. I thought about when I worked. If someone worked less than I had worked and made the same, I would think that was not fair. I have prayed and asked the meaning of this a lot.

I believe I may have finally got it.

The workers who were waiting to be chosen could have left and sought work elsewhere. It must have been difficult to stay and wait. They were not thinking carnally. They were believing they would still be chosen and somehow make enough money. That was faith.

What does it mean to serve, to give your life? You do for others first. Your needs come last. I think the man knew he would be needed, so he waited until he was hired. There are times that we must do the right thing spiritually but do what looks rather dumb to the world.

We must be willing to lay down our own will and not look at our problem. If we are truly His servant, we must obey no matter the cost. He will supply our needs.

Revelation 3:21 He who overcomes (is victorious), I will grant him to sit beside Me on My throne, as I Myself overcame (was victorious) and sat down beside My Father on His throne.

22. He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the Holy Spirit says to the assemblies (the churches).

  1. Beautiful teaching. I have often pondered those lines of scripture too.
“We must be willing to lay down our own will and not look at our problem. If we are truly His servant, we must obey no matter the cost. He will supply our needs.”
Now, I teach, “We are each enveloped by Omniscience God.” This resolves everything to Gratitude for me/us.

    1. That is such a sweet comment. I almost missed it. They put you in spam. I thought I really messed this one up.
What a great way to be enveloped! Thank you, Sheila! ❤️
