PSALM 3
3. But You, O Lord are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
4. With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me out of His holy hill, Selah, (pause and calmly think of that)!
This is a Psalm of David when he fled from his son Absalom. His heart had to be broken besides being attacked. It was his son and not an enemy. At least not your normal enemy. It is so much worse when it is personal.
But who does David cry to? He knows the Lord is his shield. That is a pretty big shield. Nothing can penetrate a shield of the Lord. He knows the Lord is basically his everything. The Hebrew word for glory means abundance. That is abundance of all that the Lord is for David. And he needs a lot, but he has a lot. The Lord’s supply is never-ending.
David cannot fail!
That is why he can say, “I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, who have set themselves against me round about.” Vs.6
7. Arise, O Lord, save me, O my God; for you have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. 8. Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessing be upon your people. Selah (pause and calmly think of that)!
He never doubted that the Lord would help him. He knew his head was so far down that he needed help looking up. He knew the Lord was his shield and his glory and that is more than enough. That is why he was not afraid. He knew!
The only reason we don’t have what David had is unbelief. The Lord will do the same thing for us if we believe Him. The evidence of faith is rest. There is no fear in rest. He answers the cry of faith.
When we have fear and unbelief we must bring these to Him as the sin that they are. We must repent and ask Him to help us because we cannot help ourselves. If we humbly bring Him a scripture like Psalm 34:4, He will answer and deliver us.
Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears. KJV
