“THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY” BIBLE STUDY OCTOBER 17, 2024

PSALM 91

1. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (Whose power no foe can withstand).
2. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust!
3. For then He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

This Psalm is credited to Moses. He knew the way for safety and yet had to bear God’s judgment for the Israelites who would die before reaching the Promise Land. We can also get stuck in a wilderness if we do not believe God’s Word to us. It is like going in circles and enduring the same trials over and over without any victory. The main culprit being unbelief.

We have the privilege of the Blood of Jesus that they did not have. We can come to God on our own and have a relationship with Him. This is saying that we must dwell or live in the secret place of the Most High and not just visit now and then.

If we dwell with Him, how could Satan torment us. If there are any difficulties besides unbelief it would be the flesh. The flesh causes us to not dwell with Him. The flesh is in opposition to God (Romans 8: 6-8). And just what does the flesh do to hinder us from dwelling in the secret place of the Most High?

Who do we serve? Serve meaning doing their will. We must not give in to the demands of the flesh. The flesh wants to have its way. It is the selfish part of us. And we must get in the habit of telling it no. If we just keep giving into it, it will get stronger. If we tell it no it gets weaker.

It is the same with the Holy Spirit. The more we obey the stronger we become. As we obey the Lord, Him, His Father and Holy Spirit come to dwell because we obey His commands, John 14:23. But the only way in which we can obey is because we love Him. Either we love Him or ourselves (flesh) more. We must learn His voice so we can get direction.

We stop going places, eating the wrong foods and being addicted to the media in its many forms because we would rather be with Him. He is more important than the flesh. We can no longer live unto ourselves. We must give Him our eyes and ears and mouth. We must listen to His music because He inhabits the praises of His people.

He will not be where the music is not His. There is a lot of music out there. We must pray and ask Him what He wants for us. Praise and worship are vital where He dwells. In Christian music, He will not anoint a song even if it is sung by someone whose heart is right if the person who wrote its heart was not right when they wrote it. We must be so careful of what we listen to. There are many traps. Satan knows all about music.

Times are getting worse every day. This is the time to find a safe place to dwell. He is the only real safe place. He will let you know where the danger lurks, and He will be your shelter in the storm. I think we can all agree the storms are getting worse. We all need the Shadow of the Almighty!
