PSALM 40
3. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. many shall see and fear – revere and worship – and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.
4. Blessed – happy, fortunate (to be envied) – is the man who makes the Lord his refuge and trust and turns not to the proud or to followers of false gods. Ampc.
This is a Psalm of David. He is again hurting because of his enemies. He is stuck in a filthy pit and needs help. The Lord does not just lift him out of the pit and steady his steps but gives him a new song.
I have written about the “New Song,” and what it means spiritually. But I have never written about what it feels like. When the Lord gives you a new song, the words are from Him. They are alive just like the Word of God. There is power in the song that lifts you up out of this world, Satan and all his filthy pits.
It brings more joy than any other song and you just keep playing it and dancing and singing with more and more joy. There is power in the new song that makes others take note of what is in you. The scripture says not that they hear this new song but that they see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. That is powerful stuff!
Then we have verse 4. He is saying to pay attention to those who have a new song. There are always those around us who are not dependent on God. There are always those around us who put family and self before the Lord. They may seem very spiritual, but we are told not to trust them or lean on them for help. There is trouble there.
Our trust is very important to Him. He is jealous for our love and trust.
