PSALM 4
5. Offer just and right sacrifices; trust (lean on and be confident) in the Lord.
6. Many say, O that we might see some good! Lift up the Light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord.
7. You have put more joy and rejoicing in my heart than (they know) when their wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly.
8. In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust. Amp. C.
This is a Psalm and song of David. I learned this one the hard way. I had done so much fasting because of my daughters’ illness that I had grown attached to fasting. I honestly thought I knew that I was to continue eating a very small partial fast.
I had learned to do without and became feeling very safe in it. I gave up the thought of eating more and was content the way things were. That is when I heard the Lord’s voice say, “Now you can eat.” I took me a while to test the spirits and believe it was Him. I never thought I would hear Him say that.
I have learned that He gives things back to us after they are no longer so very important and valuable to us. Food just was not that important anymore.
What He showed me is that He wanted my trust. Yes, He had wanted me to fast for many reasons. Now He wanted me to learn to trust without fasting. I had become feeling safe when I fasted. He wanted me to feel safe at all times. That was the sacrifice He wanted. I had learned to be abased. Now I had to learn to abound. And I was fearful. He gave me Psalm 4.
But that is not the only blessing in Psalm 4. This is a time of victory after a hard trial. David is saying how his heart has been enlarged Now He is stronger. His enemies are there finding fault in him and tell lies. Have you ever done something that pleases the Lord greatly, but others turn it into a shameful thing trying to turn your glory into shame? It really hurts.
So, because of the hard treatment, the Lord blesses. He listens to me and heeds when I call. He does not answer them. But from me He wants the right sacrifice which I have learned to trust, and no one knows the joy it now brings.
I can lie down at night in peace and safety because I know I will now see all things turn to good in My life because He has lifted up His countenance upon me and I am in the safest place possible. He has set me apart from the rest and given me distinction. They may say I am weird, but it only matters what He says. He will take care of the rest. I can focus on the good I am now enjoying!
