PSALM 26
- Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity; I have expectantly trusted, leaned and relied on the Lord without wavering and I shall not slide. AMPC
DEFINITIONS
Integrity -c) completeness; prosperity; innocence, full, perfect, upright.
Vindicate -d) to clear from blame or criticism; to defend.
This is another Psalm of David. He seems to be taking up for himself. Vindicate means to defend or clear from blame. So, David is stating his integrity. He tells of his separation from the wicked.
He will not sit with false persons or fellowship with pretenders. We must look at David’s life and follow his example. Who do we spend the most time with? Are they true Christians or pretenders? We must be careful, so they do not rub off on us.
Haggai 2:13 …unholiness is infectious.
2 Corinthians 6:17 So come out from among unbelievers, and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not any unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor.
18. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
We must make the decision to cut off our contact with unbelievers. It not only affects us spiritually but our relationship with the Father will suffer. This includes family members. There are times we must be around them and there are times we do not have to be around them.
We must choose to do things the Lord’s way. David is a talking about his integrity. The definition of integrity is innocence and completeness. We are complete when we are mature. Maturity comes with trials. David had been through a lot of them. The Lord is the one doing the perfecting. He also is doing the prospering. As we grow, we prosper. We prosper spiritually as the Lord fills us up with His goodness and power.
We know David had won many battles and was accumulating much wealth. As we grow spiritually, we are able to handle wealth and not squander it for selfish reasons. David had quite a treasure before he died and gave it to build the Lord a house.
I believe he messed up with Bathsheba because he quit going out to battle with his army. They had him stay at home for his safety. The Lord never told him to stay home. But he did not inquire of the Lord about it. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But we know he did repent and got back on track.
We must look at the whole picture and follow his example. He died in right relationship with the Lord. And His psalms are such a great teaching tool we have been given.
