PSALM 4

  1. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness, justice and right standing with You! You have freed me when I was hemmed in and enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me and hear my prayer.

Another Psalm of David showing us the blessings that come in the hard times. David is telling us the blessing that come in times of distress when we feel there is no way out of our problems.

When we are in pain with the Lord near, we feel the same distress as before we were saved, only now we are not alone in it. We know there is a reason for all of our pain. It is not in vain. David was set free and set in a large place.

What does a large place mean? No one likes to be confined in small quarters. I believe the Lord sets us free and give us room to grow. He adds to our blessings giving us more gifts to be used for His glory. In other words, I think He gives us a promotion of sorts.

Those who are not with us are convicted by our new growth and blessings and try to twist things to make us the culprit by vanity, futility and lies, verse 2. But the Lord draws near to us and blesses us for their cursing.

He gives us new joy and rejoicing. He cleanses our sacrifice and makes it acceptable to Him.

Now we can lie down and sleep, for He makes us to dwell in safety and confident trust, verse 8.

This is the whole picture of the trials we are sent. We must go through them the right way trusting the Lord and doing things His way. We learn His desire for us to be able to offer Him the right sacrifice of trust. We can see the good that comes from our pain. Then we know He loves us and only wants good for us so we can trust!
