9. Then the people rejoiced because these had given willingly, for with a whole and blameless heart they had offered freely to the Lord, King David also rejoiced greatly.

10. Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be Thou, Lord God of Israel our father forever and ever.

11. Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and Thou art exalted as head above all.

12. Both riches and honor come of Thee, and Thou reignest over all; and in Thine hand is power and might; and in Thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

13. Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise thy glorious Name.

The people had just given much of their wealth to the building of the temple that Solomon would build. We forget about how much the people gave willingly to David. Their heart was obedient to the Lord.

I always think of how David won spoils from the battles he fought. I never think of what the people gave. What does the Lord think of our offering?

I believe every time His children worship, He is looking and listening to their heart. He wants to hear thankfulness for all He has done.

He wants our focus to be on Him and not our situation. He wants us to remember the cross and how He pulled each one of us out of a pit of despair into a safe place. He wants us to remember what all He has forgiven us for. He wants us to see the vast changes that He has brought into our lives.

He is listening for truly thankful hearts of gratitude. But most of us are complaining in our heart of our hard present circumstances. We have pain in our back or hurt feelings because of what someone said and we cannot forget it.

When we are truly thankful, He opens our eyes to see how truly great He is like David saw. All he could see was His greatness and power and glory and it affected His worship.

We must come with thanksgiving, or we will not even get into the gate of God’s house!
