ISAIAH 4

  1. And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, “We will eat our own bread and provide our own apparel, only let us be called by your name to take away our reproach of being unmarried.”

I believe the day Isaiah is speaking of is the day of the Lord. That would mean is has last days meaning. So, I believe they are talking about being married to the Lord. The Lord is coming back for His bride to take her back to the home He has prepared.

In Israel they have customs that when they get engaged, the man comes to the Father of the bride to be and asks for his daughter to be his wife. He tells him the price he will pay and there is a cup that he drinks from. If she and the father accept the proposal, she must drink from the same cup. Then the groom to be goes to prepare a home for her. He does not know when it is complete until his father tells him. Therefore, neither the bride nor groom know the day when they will be wed. So, they both have to be ready.

He comes at night usually and she must have a lamp ready with oil to run off with him when he comes. Does that not sound wonderfully familiar? Then the newlyweds get to take 1 year off from their jobs and spend the time on their Honeymoon. Which I believe is a picture of the Millenium.

Those in Isaiah 4:1 are saying they want to be known as the bride of Christ, but they do not want to drink from the same cup or eat His bread. They do not want to be clothed by the blood of the Lamb or the Holy Spirit. They want to provide it for themselves.

It is too hard to be like Jesus. It is too hard to eat and drink from the same cup and be clothed with the Spirit. So, they find another who will let them say they are the bride, but they go their own way eating their own food and clothed by their own hand. In other words, the flesh or possibly the Anti-Christ spirit.

In the last days the wheat and the tares will be growing side by side. The sheep and the goats will be mingling together until He comes to separate them. The fire will burn out the tares. It will finally become obvious who are the real bride and who are not.

Romans 2:6 For He will render to every man according to his works – justly, as his deeds deserve.

7. To those who by patient persistence in well doing seek for unseen but sure glory and honor and eternal blessedness of immortality, He will give eternal life.

8. But for those who are self-seeking and self-willed and disobedient to the Truth but responsive to wickedness, there will be indignation and wrath.

9. And there will be tribulation and anguish and calamity and constraint for every soul of man who habitually does evil, the Jew first and the Gentile.

10. But glory and honor and heart-peace shall be awarded to everyone who habitually does good, the Jew first and the Gentile. Amp.

  1. Amen 🙏🏾. I love that story about the Jewish engagement and how the bride keeps the lamp ready to go with her groom. It all sounds wonderfully mysterious, yet a great comparison with how the church must be prepared and ready for Christ’s return. Bless you. 😊❤️

  2. Wenda! That was an incredible expose of the verse in Isaiah. I love the way that you detailed the purpose of marriage and drinking from his cup, it was all great.
    Great exposition!
    Blessings
