REVELATION 6
16. And said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.”
17. For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? KJV
DEFINITIONS
Stand -c) “Histemi” abide, appoint, continue, covenant, establish.
What is man running away from? They are running from the face of Him that sits on the throne. We are told to seek the face of the Lord. We are not told to run away from the face of the Lord. We are to seek the Lord meaning we are to look for Him until we find Him.
What are the reasons that we may not find Him? The main reason is always sin or self which is the flesh. Our 3 enemies are the flesh, the world and the devil. To seek the Lord takes effort. We cannot sit back with a slothful attitude and find Him.
To look for anything valuable will cost you something. He is the most valuable One there ever could be. He has everything that we could ever need. He is willing to give us all that we would need to find Him and be ready to stand.
To stand means to be in His presence without any hindrances. The Lord has already removed them and established us by the power of His Holy Spirit. We have become One with Him and He dwells in us. We keep His covenant and abide in Him. He has appointed us to continue with Him.
Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand the evil day, and having done all, to stand. KJV
This is the same Greek word for stand in Ephesians 6:13. We are to spend our time seeking the presence of the Lord so we will be used to “standing in His presence.”
The whole armor of God is in Jesus. If we try to accomplish it on our own, we will not stand. We must be “In Christ.” We must put on Christ. He is our salvation or “Yeshua.” Faith or trust in Jesus is the key to receiving the righteousness we need (Romans 3:20-26). Trust in Jesus is our Justification. We are justified before God when we are forgiven. Our sin debt is wiped away only by the blood of Jesus and we are cleared of guilt. Therefore, we are justified.
Yes, we must be justified. Yes, we must put on the whole armor of God. But the main ingredient in this is seeking His face. We must have a heart that yearns to be with Him more than anything. That is what He is looking for. He has made a way for us to be with Him. If we do not respond the proper way, we will not be able to stand when He comes.
Psalm 27:8 You have said, Seek you My face – require for and require My presence as your vital need. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord will I seek, inquire for and require of necessity and on the authority of Your Word.
