PSALM 48

  1. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.
  2. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. KJV

Who is Mount Zion? Where is the city of the Lord and who lives in this city? Is it in the middle east? Does it have boundaries? Does it have spiritual significance or only physical significance? Who and where is Jerusalem? What is the meaning of the words?

DEFINITIONS

Jerusalem -c) OT founded peaceful; to flow as water, to rain, to point out, to teach, direct, inform, instruct.

Zion -c) OT a term for Jerusalem – the city of David; permanent capital, mountain of Jerusalem; a monumental or guiding pillar – a desert, solitary place, wilderness.

Isaiah 2:2 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be firmly established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow to it.

3. And many people shall come and say, “Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the Law and instruction, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

When the Lord comes back His house will be established as the one and only place to find Him and His people. When we obey Him and keep His commandments Him and the Father come to dwell with us, in our hearts. He makes His home in our hearts. That is Mount Zion and Jerusalem. (John 14:23)

When does He begin to establish the New Jerusalem? He is establishing His overcoming remnant right now. And He will continue until He returns. What is the main ingredient for the New Jerusalem? Peace!

2 Peter 3:14 So, beloved, since you are expecting these things, be eager to be found by Him at His coming without spot or blemish, and at peace – in serene confidence, free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts. Amp.

He continually tells me to be at rest. That is what this scripture says. He will have an overcoming remnant that will be blameless in His sight because their trust is in Him. They will be at rest because He dwells within their heart and is their protection and communion. Nothing can offend them or bring harm. He knows tomorrow and is making all things work for their good. So, they can be at rest and at peace awaiting that glorious day!
