“TO THIS MAN WILL I LOOK” BIBLE STUDY MARCH 9, 2024

PSALM 121

1. I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2. My help comes from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3. 3. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee shall not slumber.

DEFINITIONS

Keepeth -c) to hedge about; guard, protect, tend, beware, be circumspect, take heed to, mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save, watch.

Look -c) to scan, look intently at, to regard with pleasure, favor or care, cause to behold, consider, respect, see.

Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembleth at My Word. KJV

The Psalmist is looking to the hills that surround Jerusalem. Each one has a different name. I believe it would most likely be Mt. Zion which the Lord claims as His dwelling place. He is looking to the One Who will shine His countenance down upon Him which would be a safe place.

The definition of keepeth has many of the same words as the word look in Isaiah 66:2. David Wilkerson had a message about how Gideon was given strength and peace from God as He looked upon Him. He said that power came to Gideon from the look from the Lord.

I always thought of Peter when the rooster crowed, and the Lord looked at Him. I believe both men had contrite hearts and trembled at His Word. When the Lord turned and looked at Peter, there was no condemnation but love.

He was giving Peter favor and care. He was causing him to behold Him. That doesn’t come easy. Peter had to go to the depths of affliction and repentance and have faith to believe the Lord still loved Him after he denied Him 3 times. That is a hard thing to come back from.

The same thing applies to Gideon. They were so bound up by the Midianites that they could barely have enough to eat. It took great faith for both of these men to return to the Lord. They did not have this in themselves. Their help came from the Lord.

Let us remember that to receive the help that we need; we must have a contrite heart and tremble at His Word. He will regard us with pleasure, favor and care and cause us to behold Him. There lies the power we need. What more can we ask!
